Goede Week
A Reflection by Fr. Avin
Goede Week, obviously meaning Good Week, is the Dutch equivalent for what most of the world calls Holy Week or Passion Tide. The Dutch must have been fundamentally faithful believing in the outcome of this terrible week of suffering, or incredibly optimistic that it would end well. Myself I prefer the term Passion! Why? Well doing things with passion means exerting maximum effort fundamental faith in its good outcome.
Christ is our compass on how to passionately deal with sentiments like Passion and comPassion. It’s an ideal week for contemplation and consideration appreciating the length Christ was prepared to go for our salvation. He showed us how we, all humanity, could deal with misfortune, sufferings and even death itself. True He was God’s son, so He could stand more than us, He was capable of miracles.
But think of it, we were created in God’s image, think of how very special moments have crossed our lives too, little miracles, perhaps not on record, but never the less miracles. The birth of children, marriages, academic success, obtaining jobs, food on the table when hungry, a roof over our head, shall I go on? All little miracles! Many people on planet Earth were not as fortunate as we, yet even the poor know how to count their simple blessings.
Need we be told by His Holiness Pope Francis to be kind and generous to the poor? Need he tell us to share what we have with those that have not? Of course not, but He, Pope Francis, wasn’t telling us, He was just reminding us lest we forgot.
Find time to reflect on your personal affairs since the last Holy Week thus finding your personal Passion to strive for the best and be blessed. I wish you all a GOEDE WEEK.
As always wishing you God’s smile,
